McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville is in the middle of its six-year runway modernization project. The $110 million dollar project is the largest the airport has undertaken. The original runways were built in the 1930s and 1940s and are simply too small for today’s major airlines.
The airport offers flights from five airlines. The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority is constantly looking for low price airlines to come into the market.
The airport hopes to grow with the tourism and corporate climate of Knoxville and this upgrade could help this happen.
