Our Second Amendment right is under attack now more than ever. Political propaganda is causing people to rewrite the constitution to benefit their argument.
Here is what you need to know. The second amendment isn’t about the right to go hunting. The wording actually says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
The Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) that the “inherent right to self-defense has been central to the second amendment right.” You do not have to be a part of the militia to own a gun or to use that gun.
Tennesseans have a long tradition of clinging tight to our gun rights. We need to make sure that we understand our rights and protect them. If we don’t, we might just lose them.
